Abu Dhabi continues to reinforce its position as a premier global business hub by introducing new measures to facilitate business expansion. The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED) has unveiled a strategic initiative allowing companies registered in other emirates and free zones to establish branches in Abu Dhabi without requiring physical office space for the first year.
This initiative is a significant step toward streamlining business operations and enhancing accessibility to Abu Dhabi’s thriving economy. It aligns with the emirate’s commitment to fostering a pro-business environment, making it easier for firms to explore opportunities and contribute to the region’s economic growth.
Enhancing Business Expansion and Economic Diversification
It applies to 1,200 economic activities across various sectors, exempting them from the need for physical premises for one year following license issuance. This move is set to further Abu Dhabi’s economic diversification goals, facilitating the growth of non-oil industries. Notably, the non-oil sector in Abu Dhabi has seen a 59% increase over the past decade, with a 6.6% rise in Q3 2024, contributing 54% to the emirate’s GDP.
Recognized as the fastest-growing startup ecosystem in the MENA region, Abu Dhabi has also expanded its Tajer Abu Dhabi and Freelancer licenses, increasing the number of permitted activities to 1,200 and 100, respectively. This initiative caters to the evolving needs of businesses and investors, driving innovation and job creation across key industries.
Simple and Efficient Licensing Process
Businesses from other emirates can seamlessly apply for a branch license in Abu Dhabi Government Services through the unified TAMM digital platform. The process involves submitting required documents, obtaining necessary approvals, and completing the payment, after which an economic license for the new branch will be issued upon approval.

With a strategic vision focused on business flexibility, regulatory support, and digital transformation, Abu Dhabi continues to shape a dynamic, resilient, and future-ready economy.
