What is an Equivalency Certificate?
The Equivalency Certificate is an official document issued by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It confirms that an academic qualification obtained from outside the UAE is recognized and considered equivalent to a corresponding qualification within the UAE’s education framework.
What are the Requirements?
- UAE MOFA attested copy of the degree certificate
- Clear scanned passport copy
- Visa and EID copy
- Copy of the degree transcript stamped with the University
- Authorization letter (will be issued upon submission)
What’s the Process?
Involves two key stages:
- Verification Stage – This is done through the Ministry’s appointed verification partners, Quadrabay/Dataflow. During this step, the Ministry verifies the authenticity of the issuing university and the education certificate.
- Equivalency Application Stage – Once the verification report is issued, the next step is to submit the official application for the Equivalency Certificate to the Ministry.

- Processing time: 20 to 30 working days (approx.)

What are the common Challenges in Obtaining an Equivalency Certificate
1. Unaccredited Universities
- Degrees from institutions that are not internationally accredited or not recognized by the Ministry of Education in the UAE cannot be granted equivalency.

- Even a small spelling variation in your name across documents (passport, Emirates ID, degree, or transcript) can trigger red flags.
- These discrepancies often require notarized name correction affidavits or re-issuance of corrected documents.
3.Incomplete Attestation
- The degree must be stamped by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).

- Quadrabay/Dataflow, the Ministry’s verification partners, contact the issuing university to confirm authenticity.
- Some universities respond slowly stretching the timeline far beyond 30 working days.
