UAE is a rising market globally due to its friendly trade policies and strategic location. In order to enter the market, a thorough understanding of the UAE business policies and product regulations is needed. UAE authorities have set in place regulations and safety requirements to maintain quality standards of the products entering the market and ensure consumer safety.
Some products are prohibited goods, the import or export of which is prohibited under the provisions of the Common Customs Law or any other regulation or law applicable in the Emirates. Whereas the restricted goods are those whose import or export is restricted under the provisions of the Common Customs Law or any other regulation or law applicable in the Emirates, and may only be released subject to the approval of the competent authority. Hence it would be useful to understand the regulatory framework of the UAE as it pertains to the products intended for market entry.
UAE has regulatory authorities on the federal level governing the entire country and authorities on the local/emirate level responsible for the regulation of products in the individual emirate: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah.
Restricted Goods
These goods require registration with relevant authorities prior to entry into the local market. The products can be subject to regulation on both levels and multiple authorities depending on the product scope.

List of Prohibited Goods in the UAE
❌All kinds of narcotic drugs (considering the control of prohibited items in general and narcotic substances, where certain prohibited goods may be imported or exported subject to producing approvals of the competent authorities).
❌Gambling tools, machinery, and devices of all kinds.
❌Nylon fishing nets.
❌Live swine.
❌Used, reconditioned, and inlaid tires.
❌Radiation and nuclear fallout contaminated substances.
❌Items that contradict Islamic faith and public morals.
❌Paan and betel leaves.
❌Any other goods or items, the importation of which is prohibited under the Common Customs Law or any other law or regulation applicable in the UAE.
