Women love going to the salon. There is nothing more important than always looking good. Opening a salon in Dubai can be a great idea as there will always be a demand for this service.
Ladies’ salons are involved in beautification and hair care, including:
- hair washing
- trimming and setting
- dyeing
- waving and straightening
- hair fixing
- henna services
as well as cosmetic treatments, which involve:
- makeup
- skin cleansing
- skin hair removal
- facial aesthetic
- microblading
- foot care, nail manicures, and treatment
Such businesses are permitted to sell preparations, tools, and accessories relevant to service provisions, like perfumes and cosmetics, soap, and hair care products.
What are the requirements?
- A valid professional trade license issued from the authority where the salon is located
- Premises meeting the necessary specifications
- Inspection card
- An updated staff list
- Documents and certificates of the person in charge
- Necessary permits to carry out certain activities issued by the concerned department
To ensure compliance with the legislation and public health requirements, the premises of the intended salon are regulated by the Dubai Municipality, health and safety department.
The location should be approved by Planning Department at Dubai Municipality. The shop must be in a good condition and comply with the regulations, in terms of construction, a signboard must be approved and displayed at the entrance, the size for the salon must not be less than 3.0 x 4.0 meters per two dressing chairs. In case there will be more chairs, the distance between hair cutting and dressing, make-up chairs must not be less than 1.0 and 0.5 meters between manicure and pedicure chairs.
The salon must be provided with:
- Water heater.
- Hair washbasin and hand wash basin provided with ceramic tiles fixed around the basin not less than a half meter.
- Provide a suitable area for cleaning and preparing hair dyes made of smooth surfaces that are easily cleaned and disinfected, fitted with an appropriate sink surrounded with ceramic with half a meter distance.
- Enough number of towels and aprons not less than 12 of each for one dressing chair. (disposable towels are preferred.)
- A basket to collect used towels and aprons for washing before the next use. It is restricted to re-use towels and aprons without washing, and it is preferred to keep washed and clean towels and aprons in plastic bags for customer use. It is prohibited to wash or dry towels and aprons in inappropriate and unhygienic areas or outside the shop.
- Enough number of hair and personal care tools made of non-rust and high-quality materials, free of cracks and sediment (disposable items are preferred).
- Approved pesticides to control pests and rodents in the salon.
- Covered waste bin should be provided for waste collection after each activity frequently and should not be kept to the second day.
- Proper fire extinguisher system approved by Civil Defense (considering the existence of a poster that shows the expiry date on the cylinder).
- Provide corridors with suitable areas (width not less than 1.2 meters) in the salon according to Dubai Civil Defense requirements.
If the salon provides services such as microblading, deep facial, peeling, or micro-needling; the professional who will perform such service must have a Beauty therapist permit from the Dubai Health Authority. (DHA Professional Licensing: Step-by-step)
Requirements to be a registered Beauty Therapist:
- Diploma in beauty therapy or cosmetics from a local accredited institute (Minimum 1-year course duration)
- 1-year experience post qualification in a related field
