The IDL is a document under the United Nations convention. Legally there is a requirement for your UAE drivers license to be translated and internationally recognised. This, legally will allow motorists to drive their cars outside of the UAE without the need for further tests or applications.
- The International Driving License, which is valid for 1 year, proves that you hold a valid driver’s license in the country of residence
- It protects you and your family in the event of accidental vehicle damage while abroad. Or, the loss of an identification document for example: passport.
- The IDL is recognized all over the world and is available in 10 different languages
- The primary function of the IDL is to allow law enforcement and other authorities in other countries to read your license in their own language
The procedure for IDL application is quick and straightforward:
- Go to: https://atcuae.ae/idl-international-driving-license/
- Complete the required information (4 steps) in the application
- Pay with your credit/debit card online. The IDL can be delivered to you via courier or you may collect it in person from their Dubai branch.
The following documents are required to obtain an International Driving License:
- Your Emirates ID
- A copy of a valid UAE driving license
- 2 photos (passport size)
