Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) was established as the sole Standardization Body in the UAE under the Law No. 28/2001. ESMA board comprises of representatives of the main parties involved in the standardization of the UAE.
ESMA tasks include ensuring consumers safety and environmental protection while supporting the UAE economy through the implementation of UAE standards.
Issuance of Conformity certificate complying with the UAE Assessment Scheme (ECAS) according to the technical requirements.
ECAS is a Product Certification scheme for government-regulated products as mandated by the Federal Law 28 of 2001.
The Certification Scheme is applicable for all regulated PPE products. Applicants must hold a valid industrial/commercial license for the supply, distribution, and/or PPE products within the UAE.
Under this scheme, all regulated products must meet the requirements for safety and quality, as specified in the Technical Regulations adopted by the UAE government.
ECAS Product category (PPE):
- Equipment for hearing protection
- Equipment for protection against falls from a height
- Equipment for head protection
- Equipment for eyes and face protection
- Protective clothing
- Respiratory protective equipment
- Equipment for leg and/or foot and anti-slip protection
- Equipment for hand and arm protection
- Equipment designed to prevent drowning or for use as buoyancy aids
- Equipment for protection against electrical risks
- Equipment designed and manufactured to protect against the result of mechanical action
- Rescue equipment
- High visibility clothing and accessories
General Requirements
- UAE Industrial / Trade License
- Test Report from an Accredited lab
- Electronic Declaration of Conformity
- User Manual of the products
- Quality procedure of the products
- Labeling as per the ESMA requirements.
Service Limitations
- Only one product category for each application
- Applications will be cancelled after 6 months without requirements by the applicant
- ECAS module applicable (self-declaration) in case of any PPE product out of regulated scope
- Max 45 Products within the same category.
Validity of ECAS Conformity:
- 1 year
- Renewal of Certificate must be processed 1-month prior expiration date.
