If you’re a physician aiming to practice medicine in Dubai, securing a DHA (Dubai Health Authority) Professional License is a crucial step. This comprehensive guide will walk you through the specific requirements, experience considerations, and special exemptions necessary for obtaining this esteemed license.

Understanding Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Professional License Registration

The DHA Professional License is a confirmation that a healthcare professional meets the requirements for their applied position and allows them to be listed in the Dubai Medical Registry. This license is valid for one year, and healthcare facilities must activate it for the professional to start practicing.

Key Procedures and Steps

1. Self-Assessment Tool: Complete the self-assessment tool to evaluate your eligibility.

2. Data Flow Verification: Ensure that your credentials are verified through the data flow process.

3. CBT Assessment: Take the Computer-Based Test (CBT) if required for your specialty.

4. **Professional DHA License Registration**: Submit your application for DHA professional license registration.

5. **Oral Assessment**: Undergo an oral assessment if required by your specialty.

Self-Assessment Tool Requirements

To complete the self-assessment tool, you will need:

– A recent passport-size photograph

– A valid passport copy

– Educational qualifications

– Experience certificates

– Good Standing Certificate (GSC), valid and not older than six months

– Last two years’ logbook for surgical specialties

DHA Professional License Requirements

When applying for the DHA Professional License, ensure you provide:

– A passport copy and personal photo with a white background

– Data flow verification results

– Self-assessment tool results

– Computer-Based Test (CBT) results, if applicable

– Educational qualifications

– Experience certificates

– Valid licenses/registrations

– Good Standing Certificate not older than six months

– Any other documents requested by DHA

Important Notes

– The DHA CBT must be passed if required.

– PSV and CBT steps can be completed simultaneously.

– The registration application will not be processed without a completed PSV report and passed CBT assessment.

– An online form must be filled out, linked with the verified PSV document, and the required fee must be paid.

– Depending on the specialty, an oral assessment might be necessary.

– If an oral assessment is not required, you will receive a registration certificate, and your name will be listed on the Dubai Medical Registry.

– The registration is valid for one year from the issuance date.

Specific Requirements and Considerations for Physicians

Educational Requirements

To qualify for a DHA Professional License, physicians must meet the following educational criteria:

– Graduates from Recognized Medical Schools: You must hold a degree from an allopathic medical school or college accredited by the relevant authority in your country. For UAE graduates, the program and university must be accredited by the Ministry of Education (MOE/NQA).

-Osteopathy Degree Holders: Physicians with a basic degree in Osteopathy can apply for licensure as specialists or consultants if they have completed specialization from accredited institutions, such as the American Board of Medical Specialties (with ACGME accreditation) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada.

– Internship: A minimum of one year (12 months) of post-graduation internship is required.

– Valid License/Registration: Applicants must hold a valid medical license or registration in their home country or country of last employment.

What are the Experience Requirements?

The DHA requires different experience levels depending on your specialty and the nature of your qualifications:

General Practitioner Title: Experience in the following specialties is accepted:

  – Cardiology

  – Critical Care Medicine

  – Emergency Medicine

  – Family Medicine

  – General Surgery

  – Internal Medicine

  – Obstetrics and Gynecology

  – Pediatrics

Sub-specialty clinical experience may be considered if it fulfils the basic specialty requirements.

– Specialists and Sub-specialists: Tier 1 or 2 qualifications do not require post-qualification experience if obtained within the last two years. Sub-specialty qualifications obtained after the main specialty degree are accepted if issued by a country listed in the PQR document.

Special Considerations

– UAE Nationals and Children of Emirati Women: These individuals are exempt from experience requirements to obtain the title of General Practitioner within two years of completing their internship. Children of Emirati Women must submit a copy of their birth certificate and mother’s family book.

– Non-UAE Nationals: Graduates from UAE universities are exempt from experience requirements for the General Practitioner title within two years of their internship. Graduates from Non-UAE universities must fulfill experience requirements according to their specific titles as outlined in the PQR document.

Navigating the DHA licensing process can be complex, but understanding the specific educational and experience requirements can streamline your journey. Whether you’re a UAE national or a non-UAE graduate, ensuring you meet these requirements will pave the way for a successful application for your DHA Professional License.
